Host an Event
Little BIG House is a vibrant community venue in Summer Hill dedicated to preventing social isolation and loneliness. Every month, we host a wide range of community-led events — from art workshops to walking groups and skill-sharing sessions.
If you’d like to run an event at Little BIG House, we have an Expression of Interest (EOI) process with three rounds each year. Each round gives community members a chance to propose events that bring people together, build connections and create a sense of belonging.
CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST WILL OPEN IN DECEMBER 2025.
What the Expression of Interest process is all about
The Expression of Interest process helps us make sure Little BIG House continues to offer a diverse, inclusive and balanced program of events that connect people across ages and interests.
Each round, our management committee reviews applications and selects events that:
- Align with our mission to reduce social isolation and foster connection
- Reflect community needs and interests
- Are safe, inclusive and accessible
- Fit within our available times and spaces.
Current Priorities
To ensure we address the most pressing community needs, our management committee identifies priority areas for each Expression of Interest round — event types, audiences or time slots where we’d love to see more activity.
For this round, we’re especially interested in events that:
- Engage Youth (under 18): Programs or activities for children and teenagers.
- Utilise Weekday Afternoons (12noon–5pm): We’d love to fill this time slot.
- Tap into popular community themes, including creative and maker activities (painting, drawing, craft, textiles), fitness and movement (strength, stretching, pilates, walking, gentle movement) and/or food and drink experiences (cooking classes, tastings, food swaps).
Tip: Highlight how your event connects to one or more of these priorities when completing your EOI form.

Why host an event at Little BIG House?
By hosting an event here, you’ll be part of something bigger — a local movement helping people feel more connected and supported.
As an approved host, you’ll enjoy:
- Access to one of the best-equipped community venues in the Inner West
- Connection to the Little BIG Tribe, a network of local organisers and changemakers
- Creative freedom to design your own event or activity
- Community credibility, showing your commitment to wellbeing, inclusion and connection.
Whether you’re a first-time organiser or an experienced facilitator, you’ll find support and a welcoming community here.
How it works
- Expression of Interest rounds open three times a year. Each round has clear open and close dates, announced via our website and newsletter.
- Submit your Expression of Interest form. Tell us about your event idea, how it connects to our mission and who it’s for.
- Committee review. Our management committee assesses each application based on fit, readiness and community value.
- Notifications sent. You’ll be informed of the outcome within a few weeks after the round closes.
- Host induction. Successful applicants attend an in-person induction before running their event.

If Your Application Is Approved
If your application is successful — congratulations! You’ll become part of the Little BIG Tribe — a community of local organisers, volunteers and hosts who share the mission of building stronger, more connected neighbourhoods.
As a host, you’ll need to:
- Attend a mandatory host induction before your first event (you can’t begin without this step).
- Hold a current Police Check (and Working With Children Check if relevant).
- Be responsible for promoting your own event, with Little BIG House support through our website and social media listings.
- Follow our community guidelines around safety, inclusivity and venue care.
- Maintain good communication — letting us know if any changes occur.

Got a question?
I’ve never hosted an event before. Is that a disadvantage?
Not at all! Many of our current hosts started with enthusiasm and no prior experience. What matters most is your commitment and willingness to learn.
Can I submit more than one event idea?
Yes, but you’ll only be selected to run one event per round.
Does my event have to be free?
Not necessarily. You can charge a small participation fee if needed, as long as it remains affordable and in the spirit of community accessibility. This will also result in a small fee being charged by the Little BIG Foundation for your event.
Can I promote my business through my event?
You can share your skills or expertise, but the event must stand on its own as a community benefit — not as a sales event.
What if my event has a slow start?
That’s okay! Community building takes time. We’ll support you as long as you stay engaged and committed to your event.
How long can my event run for?
Most approved events are scheduled for up to 12 months, with opportunities to renew if it’s going well.
Can I reapply if I wasn’t successful previously?
Absolutely. Refine your idea and try again next round, timing and availability often change.
Are there any event types that aren’t suitable?
Yes. Events that are private, commercial, religious or political in nature, or that pose safety risks, won’t be approved.
What is your number one tip for success?
Attend some existing events and get a feeling for what works before you submit!
Good luck!
