Good Work

The Good Work program aims to build and maintain happy, healthier, kinder communities at work. We foster a sense of belonging that reduces loneliness and contributes to a positive work environment throughout an entire building.

The Good Work program is a joint effort between the Little BIG Foundation and your landlord EG, to build and maintain happier, healthier, kinder communities at work. We aim to foster a sense of belonging that reduces loneliness and contributes to a positive work environment.

Office Communities

Workplace loneliness

We have surveyed the community across the Good Work buildings, reviewed the latest research on social connection and draw on our experience in residential communities and we noticed some themes. The workplace, though transformed, remains a vital space for prioritising mental health and meaningful connections.

  • New employees (working for their employer for less than a year) are 20% more likely to have felt lonely than those who had been with the organisation for 10+ years.
  • Transitions are hard and moving a workplace from one building to another presents a lot of stress on employees.
  • Office communities have a strong desire for communal “third spaces” for people to meet or take a break from work and meet with people outside their organistaion.

Why it matters

The 2018 Australian Loneliness Report revealed that 15% of employees find it challenging to mix comfortably with the people they work with, and 21% worry they will be ignored when mixing in a workplace groups. From early 2020, the government restrictions to respond to and manage the COVID-19 outbreak in Australia, created a significant toll on the mental health of the population, with a reported 54% of people feeling more lonely, isolated and disconnected from their communities. Now, as people return to office-based workplaces, we want the building environment in which people work can be a point of attraction to encourage individual to prioritise their mental health.

Why? Because it can be lonely out there, and coming to work should be good for you.
