Deb has a unique gift for turning a community into a true home. She is the creative heart behind Hampton & French, a upcycled furniture and gift shop, and the driving force behind Reclaim the Future, a NFP that allows vulnerable people to create furniture items that fill their lives and homes with hope. Deb’s warmth and talent have made her a beloved fixture of the Flour Mill community and Little BIG Tribe. Her presence is felt everywhere—from transforming old furniture into beautiful treasures to being a trusted neighbor and helping hand at the Little BIG House.
Hampton & French started as a simple hobby after Deb downsizing her home created a need and love for upcycling. Encouraged by her daughter, this love for creativity blossomed into a full-fledged business located in a light-filled space at the base of the Wheat Silos building, overlooking beautiful Harvest Park. The shop’s name reflects her dual design inspirations: “Hampton,” evoking light coastal styles, and “French,” representing timeless provincial charm.
Deb and her husband, Greg’s contributions to the Little BIG Tribe are invaluable. From contributing to the furnishings in the Little BIG House (check out our kids table) to their ever-present responses to our cries for help (what would we do without your plumbing advice Greg?) and their participation in absolutely anything that betters our community. Of course, we can’t forget the four-legged team member, Jimmy! Lovingly referred to as “the best marketing tool ever”, Jimmy is almost as well-known as his owners, always present to greet visitors and spark conversations, bringing smiles and warmth in his own furry way. These three embody the spirit of a true neighbor.
Deb often speaks of the Little BIG’s “magical power,” a community that draws people in with its warmth and inclusivity. She likens it to being embraced by octopus tentacles—wrapped in care and held close. Over the four short years in the Flour Mill, Deb has formed lifelong friendships, and it’s this sense of family that keeps her deeply connected to those around her. Her affection for the community runs deep, as she has watched little ones grow from babies in their mothers’ arms to children learning to ride bikes.

Deb brings a deep sense of joy and belonging to every gathering, whether she’s sharing a laugh at a community cocktail night or strategising over a board game. If you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by Hampton & French to explore her beautifully curated treasures, say hello, and experience the welcoming community spirit that radiates from Deb herself.
Little BIG House
Here’s more about Deb:
I’ve been a Summer Hill local since …
2020 and was the first retailer to open our doors at Hampton & French.
This community is special to me because …
Of the people and true sense of community. If I said it was a family, I wouldn’t be wrong. People drop in and visit me for a chat and to support my business. We work together, play together and value each other.
My favourite thing about the Little BIG House is …
Its accessibility. It has opened its doors to so many and varied groups – there’s something for everyone.
The event / program I’m running in the Little BIG House is …
As an assistant host to many events. I jump in when I am needed, which is easy as I am right next door. Just call me the all-round hype-girl.
Tell us a little about your newly launched charity, Reclaim the Future?
Reclaim the Future is a furniture upcycling program available to members of the community who are establishing a new home following family breakdown, settling as a refugee or similar traumatic and displacing life events. Participants are offered quality, pre-loved furniture, access to a full range of professional paints and finishes and expert guidance. They are taught how to upcycle their item of furniture, and in doing so, learn a new skill, restore self-esteem and develop social bonds in a safe and supportive environment.
You recently participated in the Uptown program with the other businesses at the Flour Mill, what was that and why did you get involved?
I love that there is a government program out there that helps local businesses align on a vision for supports them to work together for the betterment of their community. That is pretty awesome, and I wanted to be a part of that. And I learnt a lot which has helped Hampton & French and Reclaim the Future as well. Also… Sarah & Maggie can talk me into anything…
The top thing on my bucket list is …
Continuing to play an active role in creating and maintaining community and inclusion. Reclaim the Future does that but I’m always eager to do more.
I’m most grateful for …
The people I’ve met through Little BIG House. Not only do I love what they do and how they think, they are also really fun people that I love spending time with.
The last Little BIG thing / action I did for someone else or received from someone was …
The night market. So many families and friends came together in such a beautiful way. We enjoyed music and food while coming together as one. Bliss!
