Welcome to the second class in a series of sewing classes hosted by Rosa.
These classes have been created to form a safe space that is inclusive, disability accessible, affordable and social, whilst also learning a new skill that provides much reward. These classes are as much about learning, as they are about sharing, engaging with others and collaborative learning.
Welcome to PERSONALISE YOUR CLOTHING!
In this class you will learn how to make your clothing more YOU!
Learning to sew and personalize our clothing is an immensely satisfying and rewarding experience. It transforms the ordinary act of getting dressed into a creative expression of individuality and craftsmanship. Each stitch and alteration reflects our personal style and imagination, turning simple everyday garments into one-of-a-kind pieces that tell our own stories. The process of mastering sewing techniques not only enhances our practical skills but also fosters a deep sense of accomplishment and pride.
The idea of creating a garment from scratch can be overwhelming. Learning these techniques will give you ways to alter existing garments, and change things you already own. With an abundance of clothing already existing in the world, we don’t always have to start from scratch. Learning ways to up-cycle, repurpose and change things can be equally as satisfying as starting from scratch.
You will learn things such as:
– Pockets, patchwork pockets, fun pockets!
– Gathering, frills, adding ruffles, flounces, pleats
– Finishing edges using bias binding, hemming.
– Appliqué, decorative trims, fraying
– Shortening, lengthening garments, cutting garments apart
– & lots more! The opportunities are endless!
– Bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours!
– All resources, tools, fabrics will be supplied!
This class will be slightly more challenging than the Intro to Sewing class, however beginners are most definitely welcome!
These classes are small – maximum of 10 people per class.
*Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian. Carers do not need to purchase a ticket. There is a cozy lounge area for carers/guardians and others should they need to / wish to attend the class, but not actually participate in the class.
